Privacy policy
This policy covers the Astral app for iPhone (including its Home Screen widget) and this website, astral-horoscope.com. Astral is made by Christopher Francisco, an individual developer (“we” and “us” below).
The short version
Astral doesn't collect personal data. Your birth details aren't saved, your chart stays on your phone, and there's no account, no analytics and no ads. We don't have a server that your data goes to.
What you enter, and what happens to it
To calculate your chart, Astral asks for your birth date, your birthplace and, if you know it, your birth time. They're used once, on your phone, to work out your chart. Once it's calculated, they're gone: Astral doesn't save them anywhere.
What Astral keeps is the chart itself: where the Sun, the Moon and the planets were when you were born, which of them were retrograde, and your rising sign and houses. It's saved on your device only, where the app and its widget can read it. Your daily readings are written on your device from that chart. Your chart isn't sent to us or anyone else.
When Astral goes online
To find your birthplace and show it on the map, the place you type or tap is looked up with Apple's map service. That's the only time Astral goes online, and the lookup doesn't include your birth date or time. Apple handles that request under Apple's privacy policy.
Settings on your device
Astral also remembers a few things about how you've used the app, for example that you've read the disclaimer or closed a note, so it doesn't show them again. They aren't about you, and they stay on your device.
Sharing a card
You can share a card of your reading to your Instagram Story, or as an image to any app. Nothing is shared unless you tap Share, and only after you've seen the card. It holds that part of the reading, your Sun sign and the date: not your chart, and never your birth date, time or place.
Astral itself sends nothing over the internet when you share. For Instagram, the card is handed to the Instagram app on your phone through the clipboard, where iOS removes it after five minutes, along with an ID that tells Instagram the card came from Astral (it identifies the app, not you). Once you've shared a card, the app you sent it to handles it under its own privacy policy. Saving a card to your photos asks for permission to add to your photo library; Astral can't read your photos.
Who we share data with
No one. Astral doesn't send us your data, so we have none to share, sell or use for advertising. The only things that leave your phone are the birthplace lookup above and the cards you choose to share. Astral has no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code, and it doesn't track you across other apps or websites.
While Astral is in beta (TestFlight)
The beta is installed through Apple's TestFlight. When you join, Apple shares some information with us under its TestFlight terms: your email address if we invited you by email, crash reports, and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send from TestFlight. We use them only to fix and improve Astral. To have your feedback deleted, email us (see “Contact” below).
Crash and usage data from Apple
If you've turned on “Share With App Developers” in your iPhone's settings (Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with us, without your name or contact details. You can turn it off there at any time.
How long data is kept, and how to delete it
Your chart stays on your phone until you delete Astral, or until you redo your chart in the app, which replaces it. Deleting the Astral app deletes everything it stored: your chart and its settings. Nothing is held on a server, by us or anyone else on our behalf, so there's nothing else to delete and no request to make.
Because Astral collects nothing, there's no consent to withdraw: you can stop using it, or delete it, at any time. If you have a question about your data, or want feedback you sent during the beta deleted, email privacy@astral-horoscope.com.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or third-party content: no tracking scripts, fonts or embeds from other companies. Our host, Netlify, keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) to run and protect the site, under Netlify's privacy policy.
Children
Astral isn't directed at children, and it collects no personal data from anyone, children included.
Changes to this policy
If what Astral keeps or sends ever changes, we'll update this page and the privacy screen in the app at the same time, and change the date at the top.
